Teen Fiction Writing Contest

Teens residing in Montgomery County are invited to stretch their creativity in our annual Teen Fiction Writing Contest.  Entries will be accepted January 3-February 17, 2016 via email to smoser@daytonmetrolibrary.org or in person at each branch location.  Winners will be announced and prizes awarded at an awards ceremony on March 18th at the Northwest Branch.   Entries will be accepted in the following categories: 
  • Grades 7-9 Flash Fiction (Up to 500 words)
  • Grades 7-9 General Fiction (500-2000 words)
  • Grades 7-9 Fan Fiction (up to 2000 words)
  • Grades 10-12 Flash Fiction (Up to 500 words)
  • Grades 10-12 General Fiction (500-2000 words)
  • Grades 10-12 Fan Fiction (up to 2000 words)
Prizes in each category will be $100 for first place, $75 for second place, and $50 for third place.  The Dayton Metro Library Friends are generously sponsoring this contest.

It's that time of year-cold nights, warmer days.  If the sap starts running, the maple syrup's coming.  Join us as we hang our bucket, collect the sap and turn it into maple syrup. The season usually runs early to mid-February through March. We'll keep our fingers crossed- Old Sugar is showing signs of wear and Mother Nature can be unpredictable.

Whether applying for a job online or just keeping in touch with family, having an Email account has become an essential way to communicate in today’s society. This class is your introduction to electronic mail. You will have the opportunity sign up for your own e-mail account as we learn the basics of electronic mail.

Class size is limited to twelve participants with a maximum capacity of sixteen. Sessions will start promptly at listed start time with consideration for parking and weather conditions. Each attendee will be assigned to a laptop for use for hands on training.
