The Giving Tree: It's Sap to Syrup Time

It's that time of year-cold nights, warmer days and the sap starts flowing through the sugar maple trees.  Join us as we hang our bucket on Sugar, Westwood's one and only sugar maple tree, collect the sap and turn it into maple syrup. The season usually runs early to mid-February through March. We'll keep our fingers crossed- Old Sugar, is aging and Mother Nature can be unpredictable.

Connecting the Piece Exhibit

Connecting the Pieces - an exhibit on the archaeology collection from the Amache incarceration facility where 10,000 Americans of Japanese ancestry were interned during World War II.   Arranged by the Dayton Chapter of the Japanese American Citizens League, the exhibit is on loan from the University of Denver Amache Project and History Colorado, Office of the State Archaeologist.  Visit the exhibit on the Second Floor South Bridge.

Safe On Saturday includes free sensory, large & small motor activities, music, storytelling, and a variety of hands-on health & safety  activities for children with information for parents. Mayor Nan Whaley will issue Proclamation.  Chris Rowland, Five Rivers Metro Parks Naturalist, will entertain with his puppets and music. Area agencies will provide activities for children and information for parents.

This event will kick off April as Month of the Young Child celebrated by the Southwest Ohio Association for the Education of Young Children – Dayton Chapter in collaboration with Dayton Children’s and the Dayton Metro Library. It is an annual celebration celebrating early learning, young children, their teachers and families.  This year’s theme is Children’s Opportunities—Our Responsibilities. The MOYC highlights the importance of families, early childhood professional, and communities working together to support every child’s healthy development and early learning. Locally MOYC is celebrated while nationally the Week of the Young Child is April 8-12 by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
