Dayton Clodbusters and the History of Baseball

Come out and learn how baseball was played in 1860. You'll first learn about the origins of baseball, including games such as stoolball, trap ball, rounders and town ball. You'll then see what it was like to play the game, get a chance to see a recreated vintage baseball and bat, and learn the rules and customs of 1860s baseball. Finally, this program will talk about the formation of Dayton’s oldest vintage baseball club, the Clodbusters.

Meet the Podcaster: George Drake Jr.

Radio producer George Drake, Jr.’s podcast, Fifth and Ludlow, tells the story of 1920s Dayton through a mysterious letter found beneath a bathtub. He’ll have listening stations, materials that inspired the podcast, and stories of how it all came together. 

Drake, Jr. is a 2019 recipient of the Artist Opportunity Grant program, funded by the Montgomery County Arts & Cultural District (MCACD) and administered by Culture Works.
