Teen Fiction Writing Contest

All Locations
Teens residing in Montgomery County are invited to stretch their creativity in our annual Teen Fiction Writing Contest.  Entries will be accepted January 3-February 17, 2016 via email to smoser@daytonmetrolibrary.org or in person at each branch location.  Winners will be announced and prizes awarded at an awards ceremony on March 18th at the Northwest Branch.   Entries will be accepted in the following categories: 
  • Grades 7-9 Flash Fiction (Up to 500 words)
  • Grades 7-9 General Fiction (500-2000 words)
  • Grades 7-9 Fan Fiction (up to 2000 words)
  • Grades 10-12 Flash Fiction (Up to 500 words)
  • Grades 10-12 General Fiction (500-2000 words)
  • Grades 10-12 Fan Fiction (up to 2000 words)
Prizes in each category will be $100 for first place, $75 for second place, and $50 for third place.  The Dayton Metro Library Friends are generously sponsoring this contest.

Women's Self-Defense: Basics Skills (Level 1)

Self-defense designed specifically for women, and taught by a woman. Learn the fundamentals in avoiding and dealing with a violent attacker. Training is based on real-world scenarios, and teaches universal techniques that are easy to remember.  Level One teaches the Basic Skills of defense and escape.  Level One is required before partaking in a Level Two class.  Those who attended the self-defense course at the library last year have already learned what will be covered in this Level One course and only need to take again if they feel the need a refresher course.
