Teen Fiction Writing Contest

All Locations
Teens residing in Montgomery County are invited to stretch their creativity in our annual Teen Fiction Writing Contest.  Entries will be accepted January 3-February 17, 2016 via email to smoser@daytonmetrolibrary.org or in person at each branch location.  Winners will be announced and prizes awarded at an awards ceremony on March 18th at the Northwest Branch.   Entries will be accepted in the following categories: 
  • Grades 7-9 Flash Fiction (Up to 500 words)
  • Grades 7-9 General Fiction (500-2000 words)
  • Grades 7-9 Fan Fiction (up to 2000 words)
  • Grades 10-12 Flash Fiction (Up to 500 words)
  • Grades 10-12 General Fiction (500-2000 words)
  • Grades 10-12 Fan Fiction (up to 2000 words)
Prizes in each category will be $100 for first place, $75 for second place, and $50 for third place.  The Dayton Metro Library Friends are generously sponsoring this contest.

Learn strategic card games one month and try out computer coding games the next.

Feb 8th: Countdown, Escape the Room! Cooperative board game in which you and a team race against the clock, uncovering clues as you go, to find a way out of the manor before it is too late. 
March 8th: Countdown, CodeCombat. Pick a character and see how far you can get while learning computer code that progresses you through the online dungeon.
April 5th: Countdown, Forbidden Island. Cooperative mobile game in which you and a team discover hidden treasures on a mysterious island, but can you get to them all before the island sinks?

If you are currently employed, you have a choice about career and job.  If you do not make the choice to actively work on your career plan, you are leaving it up to chance that your employer will keep you around. The odds are not in your favor. Career and life coach Dean Waggenspack will lead participants through the importance of having a career plan; the steps involved in creating a plan and building career/ life/ self balance within that plan.  This program will run in three sessions on Feb 9, 16 and 23. Each session will build on the previous session but participants can choose to attend one, two or all three sessions.
